These outline drawings give an idea of the main waistcoat shapes. You can have any shape, length, or collar design that you wish. If you have seen something in a painting, or film that you like, send me a picture. Waistcoats are not just for gents, I have a selection of fitted waistcoats for ladies too. Fabrics of all kinds; brocade, silk, satin, velvet, taffeta etc. Anything can be used !
Backs can be adjusted by lacing, buckles, buttons or ties. We show here just a few, but coming soon; Georgian waistcoats, single and double breasted with collars, and frock coats. Tudor and Renaissance doublets, Victorian waistcoats and coats.

The Victorians really got to grips with tailoring their waistcoats with more complicated cutting, darts, collars and even padding. Fabrics were velvets and brocades. The necklines are usually low, and single or double breasted. The backs have a tie or a buckle. The waistcoat shown at the back of the photo is a "one off". The front is Chinese silk, the back black satin. It has bound pockets and "gold" metal buttons. The 18th century is the golden era for waistcoats, in my opinion. The early ones were usually white or cream and lavishly embroidered. They were single breasted with high necklines sometimes with collars, the neck being filled with a stock. The back adjusted with a lace or tie. Later they became double breasted, with lower fronts and very large collars.
The waistcoat pictured is a "One off" made from black and silver polyester brocade. It has a moire taffeta back with a lace. The buttons are "pewter" coloured metal with a four pointed star, it has bound pockets. SIZE S/M PRICE £40.00
