This period is from George I in 1714 to the death of William IV in 1837, which also incorporates the 'Regency' period.
Georgian Dress
I made this dress for re-enactment so long ago! It is a little worn around the edges now and makes a good point about the use of some man-made fibres as the fabric has started to 'pill' or get little bobbles on the surface. This dress is worn over stays, padded roll and petticoats. I made this to play a servant and so it is a little drab. More often these dresses would be made from flowery chintz or possibly silk for the upper classes.
An authentic day dress like this, in cotton, would start at £500
Fantasy Georgian Dress
Well, one has to have a bit of fun sometimes! This 'Red Dragon Dress' (as it has come to be known), started with the corset and I decided I needed a skirt. This 'tail' does loop up 'a la polonaise' like a Georgian dress, it just doesn't have the front! It can be worn with a pencil skirt if you want to be a little more demure!
