flitterbat - makers of all kinds of Fine and Fancy costumes for Aesthetes, Bohemians and Gothicks
Gentlemen
All the garments shown here were special commissions, so I won't reproduce any exactly. As with all my garments I am happy to work with you on a design or idea you may have. How authentic or mad a garment may be is also up to you.

Prices are difficult as every garment is different, and many factors need to be considered, construction, fabrics, trimmings etc. If it is to be authentic in construction, it may involve a lot of hand sewing. Please see the section on Authentic Costume.

A word on tailoring
Tailoring is different to dressmaking. Dressmaking tends to rely on iron-on interfacing and stiffening, the garment is put together in a completely different order and is made almost entirely using a machine. Tailoring has a lot of hand work on the inside, using horsehair and stiff canvas to add stability and structure to the garment, all stitched by hand. There is usually some shrinking and stretching of fabrics to create curved seams which hang perfectly. The garment is also assembled in a different order which, in theory, would allow the garment to be re-modelled should fashion dictate, or if the customer loses weight.

Please bear in mind that my jackets are fully tailored!
